15 Essential Oils that can Reduce Cellulite Naturally!

The cellulite, also called “orange peel” is what gives your skin a wrinkled, dimpled appearance. It appears when body fat puts pressure on the connective tissues present throughout the body and distorts the skin. It can appear on any part of the body, but it is seen more frequently in the buttocks and thighs. Cellulite will probably appear after puberty and may increase its severity with age. It is also more common in women than in men, and about 85-90% of women face it at some time in their lives. However, cellulite is not a serious disease and rarely requires medical attention. If, despite everything, you are worried about their appearance, essential oils are a good natural and healthy remedy for you.

Essential Oils for Cellulite:

Essential oils for cellulite are commonly used in the form of massage oils or bath oils and especially in mixtures. Although they contribute greatly to the treatment of cellulite by improving the quality of the skin, they may not be a complete cure. Combine the oils with a healthy diet and a weight loss plan and you will be on your way to a much healthier body and skin. Given here are some of the oils that have been seen to reduce cellulite deposits in the body:

1. Grapefruit Essential Oil:

Grapefruit essential oil is a common part of bath diuretic oil blends for cellulite. Eliminates toxins, reduces the accumulation of fat under the skin, improves blood circulation and helps thin the body when used with topical creams containing caffeine. It is commonly used with vegetable oils, such as olive oil, for massages. It also goes well with a carrier oil such as coconut oil for anti-cellulite massages.

Note: This oil can cause UV damage, so avoid going out in the sun. Also, do not use it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding as there is not enough research to support this use.

2. Essential Citrus Oils:

Citrus oils such as essential oils of lime, tangerine, orange and lemon are commonly used for cellulite, as they are diuretics and improve circulation. They promote lymphatic drainage and are used in massage oil mixtures for fat loss, which helps fight cellulite. Some of the oils that go well with citrus oils are oregano, juniper, grapefruit and basil.

Note: Citrus oils can cause phototoxicity when exposed to direct sunlight. Therefore, avoid use before going outdoors.

3. Rosemary Essential Oil:

Rosemary oil is commonly used in massages and removes excess water in the body. Detoxifies the body, stimulates circulation and strengthens the lymphatic system. Some oils that mix well with rosemary are grapefruit, oregano and cypress.

Note: Rosemary oil may not be safe for pregnant women, patients with seizures and may induce excessive bleeding if applied to bruises and wounds. In these cases, replace it with juniper oil.

4. Juniper Essential Oil:

Juniper essential oil detoxifies the body as it is a diuretic and is therefore used for cellulite. It is a common ingredient in mixtures of anti-cellulite massage oils and bath oils. It is also used in massages that treat flaccid skin and stretch marks, which helps reduce cellulite. Some oils that mix well with juniper oil are fennel and grapefruit.

Note: Avoid using this oil in case of skin injuries or injuries.

5. Essential Oil of Salvia Claria:

“Claria sage essential oil is popularly used in skin care to reduce wrinkles, acne and cellulite”. 

Massage oils for fat reduction and bath oils for cellulite make use of this. Some oils that mix well with claria sage oil are geranium, juniper, citrus and patchouli.

Note: There is not much research to support the use of this oil in pregnant women. Therefore, avoid using the oil to be on the safer side.

6. Fennel Essential Oil:

Fennel oil is a diuretic that accelerates the expulsion of toxins from the body. It is used in fat loss massage and in anti-cellulite bath and massage oils. Some of the oils that mix well with fennel oil are lemon, grapefruit and rosemary.

Note: This oil may not be the right option if you are pregnant or suffer from epilepsy.

7. Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil:

Cinnamon bark oils stimulate the lymphatic system and improve circulation in the blood vessels, thus helping to expel toxins and reduce cellulite. It is generally used in massages with a carrier oil. But you can also drink cinnamon tea regularly to complement the treatment.

Note: The oil can inhibit blood clotting and cause interactions with other medications. Do not use in case of blood disorders.

8. Geranium Essential Oil:

Geranium oil is a good tonic for the skin, improves circulation, balances hormones and detoxifies the body. It is commonly used in creams for the treatment of cellulite and is also used in massages. Some oils that mix well with geranium oil are juniper, sage claria and citrus oils.

Note: Do not use in children or pregnant women. It can also cause rashes on sensitive skin.

9. Cypress Essential Oil:

Cypress oil treats cellulite by strengthening weak connective tissue and toning the skin. Some of the oils that go well with cypress oil are lemon and juniper.

Note: This is generally not recommended for pregnant women and children.

10. Patchouli Essential Oil:

Patchouli oil is commonly used in the treatment of water retention. It can be used on skin covered with wounds, as well as an antiseptic. It is also commonly used in the treatment of skin problems and cellulite. Patchouli oil is commonly used in combination with sage.

Note: Preferably, do not use this oil in pregnant women and children.

11. Lemongrass Essential Oil:

Lemongrass oil treats cellulite by expelling toxins and excess water from the body. Massage combinations that use lemongrass oil attack the fat cells under the skin and tone the body. Some oils that go well with lemongrass oil are oregano, fennel and basil.

Note: Do not use this oil in pregnant women, diabetics and children under 2 years of age. Also, do not use it on hypersensitive and damaged skin.

12. Celery Seed Essential Oil:

Celery oil reduces the level of cellulite deposits and purifies the body by eliminating toxins. It is a commonly used diuretic for cellulite prevention. It is used more frequently in combination with grapefruit oil.

Note: Do not use celery seed oil before going outdoors and on sensitive skin. Store the oil in dark and airtight containers, as old and rusty oil could have adverse effects.

13. Oregano Essential Oil:

Brushing affected areas with oregano essential oil can stimulate blood circulation and also expel toxins from difficult points. Some of the oils that go well with oregano oil are juniper, grapefruit, basil and lemon.

Note: This oil can reduce blood clotting, cause interactions with other medications and should be avoided by children and pregnant women.

14. Thyme Essential Oil:

Thyme oil is a diuretic, expels toxins, balances hormones and also improves blood circulation. It is commonly used with juniper, lime and fennel oils.

Note: Most people allergic to oregano are also allergic to thyme oil. The oil delays blood clotting, so avoid using it approximately 2 weeks before any scheduled surgery. Also, avoid if you need to reduce estrogen exposure due to health conditions.

15. Cedar Essential Oil:

Cedar oil treats excess fat, removes toxins and, therefore, treats cellulite. Some of the oils with which it mixes well are cypress, juniper and grapefruit.

Note: Do not use in pregnant women.

Apart from the oils mentioned so far, essential oils such as hazelnut, peppermint, spearmint, benzoin and carrot seeds are also used in the treatment of cellulite.

Methods to Use Essential Oils for Cellulite:

Below are some of the most common ways in which essential oils for cellulite are used:

  • Dry brushing:Use a body brush, apply a few drops of a mixture of essential oils and brush with ascending movements. This improves blood circulation under the skin. The preferred time to do so is before showering.
  • Massage:Use a few drops of oil and massage with circular movements. This also improves blood circulation and improves skin quality. Doing this before taking a shower is a good way to exfoliate, which helps open the pores of the skin and eliminate toxins.
  • Bath:Doing this with an essential oil allows the oil to penetrate the skin. While bathing, pinch and tap the affected areas to help the oil break up the fat deposits. You can also massage the areas when you are underwater using particular mixtures.

Tips for Using Essential Oils for Cellulite:

  • Find out and eliminate the oils you are allergic to.
  • Some oils may work for a friend but not for you. Follow a trial and error method and find the right oil.
  • Find out which combinations work best.
  • Consult your doctor before using any essential oil as some may interfere with any medication you take. Consider the health risks before choosing.
  • Make sure that the oils you use before going outdoors do not increase the skin damage related to UV rays.

How to Use Essential Oils for Cellulite?

Below are some examples of mixtures. Remember that you do not need to limit yourself to these, as there are many types of mixtures.

Bath Oil for Cellulite:

  1. Mix 6 drops of oregano and juniper, 10 drops of lemon and grapefruit and 8 drops of basil. Mix well.
  2. Add 2 handfuls of Epsom salt, 1 handful of rock salt and 8 drops of the mixture from the first step to the bath water.
  3. Massage the affected areas underwater.

Alternatively,

  1. Mix 5 drops of juniper and 3 drops of orange, cypress and lemon with 2 tablespoons of honey.
  2. Use it twice a week in your baths and supplement it with massage oils.

Massage Oil for Cellulite:

  • Mix 1: Mix 14 drops of juniper, 10 drops of lemon and 6 drops of oregano.
  • Mix 2: Mix 8 drops of fennel, 10 drops of lemon and 12 drops of grapefruit.
  • Mix 3: Mix 10 drops of basil, 8 drops of thyme and 12 drops of grapefruit.
